Makalu Base Camp Trek is situated at the altitude of 4,900m-16076ft from sea level which is far enough as if some smaller mountain’s summit. Usually, Makalu Base Camp Trek can be started from Tumlingtar (400m-1312ft) from a flight from Kathmandu valley. From Tumlingtar, the trail follows the way towards Khadbari (1,025m-3362ft), Chichila (1,800m-5905ft), Num (1,500m-4921ft), Seduwa (1,493m-4898ft), Tashi Gaun (2,200m-7217ft), Khamula Danda (3,500m-11482ft), Dobate, Yangri Kharka (3,557m-11669ft), Langmale Kharka (4,410m-14468ft), Makalu Base Camp (4,900m-16076ft), Yangri Kharka (3,557m-11669ft), Dobate, Khamula Danda (3,500m-11482ft), Nabagaun (2,500m-8202ft) via Tashi Gaun, Num via Seduwa, Khadbari and finally to starting point i.e. Tumlingtar (400m-1312ft). From Tumlingtar, a comforting flight will take you back to Kathmandu valley. However, the whole journey is full of excitement, adventure, and sometimes thrilling too. You can also explore the culture, tradition, and lifestyle of the Rai, Sherpa, and Bhotia people during this journey. People of these communities hold the key to preserving biological as well as cultural heritages of the Makalu Barun area.
Mt. Makalu, proudly situated at an elevation of 8,485 meters above sea level, is the fifth highest mountain in the world. However, the peak lying in one of the remotest areas of the country has been valued the most because of its adventurous and explorative offerings and has its shape as a four-sided pyramid, situated at the border between Nepal and Tibet. Trekking in Makalu Base Camp Trek is one of the most Popular Trekking Destinations in Nepal offering the great opportunity to explore high-altitude terrains and landscapes, fully covered by snow along with an amazingly unique Himalayan lifestyle. The trekking trail leading to Makalu Base Camp contains five major ecological zones where you can find lush and tropical Arun Valley and rhododendron forests with fir and alpine meadows, leading towards the Barun glacier. Trekking towards this region is most challenging and adventurous offering the unspoiled or untouched natural beauty, located close to the Everest Region.
Starting from the Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour to touch the Makalu Base Camp, the journey is full of adventure, exploration, excitement, thrill, and deep insight into the typical countryside of Nepal. The trekking trail follows beautiful rhododendron forests, juniper forests, unfrequented trails in the countryside, and snowy trail with the backdrop of Himalayas, and dramatic sceneries and views all around throughout the trek. You will be visiting typical villages in the countryside including Gurung Village in Chichila, Sherpa Village in Tashigaun, and various villages of different ethnicity displaying their enriched culture and tradition. Dobate is the amazing spot to capture the most beautiful views of Chamlang (7,319 meters), Peak 6 (6,524 meters), Peak 7 (6,758 meters), and many other Himalayas vistas smiling at you. Upon reaching Makalu Base Camp, you will obtain heavenly pleasure in the lap of the Himalayas, from where you can see endless views all around, making you gaze and surprise of being there. Situated at the higher elevation, Makalu Base Camp Trek presents you to get into nature and make you lost with it. Magnificent views of Makalu Peak from the south face, Mt. Everest (8,848 meters), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 meters), and the other Himalayas adds beauty to your journey, from where you never want to turn off your eyes and enjoy yourself in the excitement of being in such heaven-alike place.
Nevertheless, the major highlights of trekking in Makalu Base Camp include traveling in and towards the beautiful mountain with beautiful views, dense forest, lots of varieties of plants and animals with relatively poor and remote people with the richest hearts and cultures. One of the rare experiences you can obtain from here is the lagging of modern facilities and resources and fully depending on the deed of nature. The best time to make your journey towards this area is between September-November and March-May as the trails are not (or very little) covered with snow at this time.
